THUR 9/11
The Severns Valley Brazil Mission Team made it home safely this afternoon!
WED 9/10
The group started their journey home after lunch. They have a lot of flying ahead of them.
TUE 9/9
The team rose for an early breakfast this morning and traveled to Teresina to begin their journey home. The group is getting to rest, relax and shop on their last day in-country.
MON 9/8
God is so good! Including today's clinics, the team has seen an amazing 690 patients. Some of (the locals) even stayed the night outside last night to ensure they would get to see a doctor on the team's last day. It was bittersweet leaving the clinic for the last time. Tonight the team will say their good-byes, pack and head back to Teresina in the morning.
SUN 9/7
Today the team had a few opportunities to spend time with the locals away from the clinic. This morning they ministered to children through Vacation Bible School, and 17 of them came forward. In the afternoon the group made home visits to families (much like we do here at Severns Valley.) John Rice's team had a family of 8 receive Jesus, and Dr. Johnson's team had about the same experience. Tonight they worshipped at the church in Juazeiro, and 7 adults prayed to receive Christ. The group is "pretty excited," said John. What a faithful God we serve! How do they relax in the evening? By watching world cup soccer, of course -- Brazil vs. Chile.
SAT 9/6
The patient total has risen to 454. Please continue praying for God to bless the hands and feet of our team members, giving them specific opportunities to share Jesus with such a captive audience. This weekend is a holiday weekend in Brazil, so around 5 PM the group met in Costello for a "Walk for Jesus." They paired up with other churches and government officials to walk the city streets like a parade. The crowd swelled to about 1000 and culminated with a big worship service with special speakers and singers. About 30 people made professions of faith.
FRI 9/5
Almost 300 patients have been seen by our doctors this week. They are having lots of fun working and serving in the clinic, and look forward to seeing more patients tomorrow. Tonight they worshiped with about 100 people at the church in Costello. The group sang as a choir, Dr. Brown and Dr. Johnson gave their testimonies and John Rice spoke. The team enjoyed spending time with the church folk, encouraging them and lifting them up. When they arrived back at the hotel they sat around telling "doctor stories" from the day.
THUR 9/4
Today was a great day. The team had 2 shifts at the clinic, 9 AM – Noon & 2 – 5 PM. There were kids and families who hung out at the clinic all afternoon. They made lots of balloon animals and John Rice had a little “helper.” There was a man who had only 4 teeth left and Dr. Lee pulled them out. An English teacher came by to practice her English with Peg and Martha, and Dr. Brown got to see something he’d never seen before…
Everyone’s feeling good and seem to be getting good rest.
Yesterday’s afternoon clinic – 56 patients seen
Today’s clinics – 155 patients seen
TOTAL: 211 patients
The team had their first clinic today from 2-5 PM and were able to see about 60 patients. A cyst was removed from an arm, several teeth pulled, babies and adults were "checked-up" and glasses were given out to people so they could once again see.
There was even time for a couple radio station interviews.
The team arrived in Costello around 3:00 this afternoon. Tonight they will get some much-needed rest.
