What a blessing it has been to meet and minister to the people of Brazil. We have been met with dozens of people waiting at the clinic each morning and some have traveled hours and waiting some times over night to be seen by the American Doctors. All of this is without complaints. The people dress in their best clothing to visit this clinic.

Sunday, we had VBS for over 90 children at the church in Juazeiro in a one room church. Proving space is not an obstacle when God is involved. Please continue to pray for us and for the people of Brazil. See you soon. Donna Major

Our experience here in Brazil has been interesting and satisfying. We have been able to assist in the medical care of many people but more importantly been able to share our love for Jesus to these people. These are great people with beautiful children. They are so grateful for our time and effort with them. God´s love shows through people here just as it does at home and any part of the world. Our team has been a super team to work with and we thank God for this opportunity to serve him. Dr. Marshall Johnson

Wow! What a wonderful people we have encountered in this country. They are so appreciative of all we have done. This has been such a rewarding trip for the people of Brazil and for our team. Vickie Johnson

I am humbled by the celebrity status the Brazilian people bestow upon us. They want to touch us, take our picture and have their picture taken with us. The children want our autographs. I always ask them their name and want them to know Jesus already knows their name and loves them very much. Laurie Souleyrette

This has been the most fun experience. I am tired and hot but happy. The children here are beautiful. They are a rainbow of colors. They are loving and curious. My days in the clinic have been just like my days at my office. Children and moms are the same the world over. I am going to be sad to leave here but I am looking forward to sharing all my stories with you. Dr. Marquita Ball

The Team received a touching letter from Natalia, a 12-year-old girl who spent a lot of time with them during their stay in Brazil.

They would like to share it with you...

THUR 9/11

The Severns Valley Brazil Mission Team made it home safely this afternoon!

WED 9/10

The group started their journey home after lunch. They have a lot of flying ahead of them.

TUE 9/9

The team rose for an early breakfast this morning and traveled to Teresina to begin their journey home. The group is getting to rest, relax and shop on their last day in-country.

MON 9/8

God is so good! Including today's clinics, the team has seen an amazing 690 patients. Some of (the locals) even stayed the night outside last night to ensure they would get to see a doctor on the team's last day. It was bittersweet leaving the clinic for the last time. Tonight the team will say their good-byes, pack and head back to Teresina in the morning.

SUN 9/7

Today the team had a few opportunities to spend time with the locals away from the clinic. This morning they ministered to children through Vacation Bible School, and 17 of them came forward. In the afternoon the group made home visits to families (much like we do here at Severns Valley.) John Rice's team had a family of 8 receive Jesus, and Dr. Johnson's team had about the same experience. Tonight they worshipped at the church in Juazeiro, and 7 adults prayed to receive Christ. The group is "pretty excited," said John. What a faithful God we serve! How do they relax in the evening? By watching world cup soccer, of course -- Brazil vs. Chile.

SAT 9/6

The patient total has risen to 454. Please continue praying for God to bless the hands and feet of our team members, giving them specific opportunities to share Jesus with such a captive audience. This weekend is a holiday weekend in Brazil, so around 5 PM the group met in Costello for a "Walk for Jesus." They paired up with other churches and government officials to walk the city streets like a parade. The crowd swelled to about 1000 and culminated with a big worship service with special speakers and singers. About 30 people made professions of faith.

FRI 9/5

Almost 300 patients have been seen by our doctors this week. They are having lots of fun working and serving in the clinic, and look forward to seeing more patients tomorrow. Tonight they worshiped with about 100 people at the church in Costello. The group sang as a choir, Dr. Brown and Dr. Johnson gave their testimonies and John Rice spoke. The team enjoyed spending time with the church folk, encouraging them and lifting them up. When they arrived back at the hotel they sat around telling "doctor stories" from the day.

THUR 9/4

Today was a great day. The team had 2 shifts at the clinic, 9 AM – Noon &  2 – 5 PM. There were kids and families who hung out at the clinic all afternoon. They made lots of balloon animals and John Rice had a little “helper.” There was a man who had only 4 teeth left and Dr. Lee pulled them out. An English teacher came by to practice her English with Peg and Martha, and Dr. Brown got to see something he’d never seen before…

Everyone’s feeling good and seem to be getting good rest.

Yesterday’s afternoon clinic – 56 patients seen

Today’s clinics – 155 patients seen

TOTAL: 211 patients

WED 9/3

The team had their first clinic today from 2-5 PM and were able to see about 60 patients. A cyst was removed from an arm, several teeth pulled, babies and adults were "checked-up" and glasses were given out to people so they could once again see.

There was even time for a couple radio station interviews.

TUE 9/2

The team arrived in Costello around 3:00 this afternoon. Tonight they will get some much-needed rest.

Tomorrow the team will travel to Juazeiro to set up the pharmacy and have their first clinic.

Having the opportunity to work in a clinic with a medical team, we have seen a variety of people form the entire community and have found them all to have a beautiful spirit. the people make us feel so welcome and they feel blessed that we have come to help. When in fact, I am the one who has been blessed. Words cannot express the blessings I have received this week. Fred Stein

Working with women's health care needs in the medical clinic has been the most rewarding experience of my professional career. Women's medical needs are there same throughout the world. They are appreciative of any help you can give them. This trip has truly been a blessing to my life. Darlene Witten

What a wonderful place and experince! It is a blessing to see how appreciative and receptive the people of Paiui are. Many have been praying specifically for the arrival of such a team and now we are here. God is helping us make a mighty impact on the health and spitirual well-being of the exceptional people of this region. And the impact they have made on me is just as mighty. Dr. Chad Brown

The dental section has worked well together, especially not having prior experience in the dental field (for Vickie as nurse [not a nurse] and Gyson, the interpreter). Patients were very appreciative, mostly extractions and floride treatments. Patients were from age 4 - 60. Continue to pray that we are a positive influence medically and spiritually. Dr. Bill Lee

The children are PRECIOUS! Maybe I'll figure out a way to bring at least one child home. Martha Stein

Brazil is beautful! The people are wonderful! Yes, it's hot, but air conditioning is available in our hotel. The clinic has been busy in the best way! Prayers have been answered at every turn! Miss you all! XoXo Cheryl Tharpe

The smiles on the faces, and the hugs and kisses from patients (especially those with new glasses) have made the trip so rewarding. What a blessing for us. Peg Grimsley

How great it is to be a part of the "Chosen 16." The bonds and friendships formed have helped to make this mission trip feel so right and be so successful. It is amazing to see all the people who came so far for health care and for us to come out of our comfort zone to use our gifts to meet their needs and see them smile. God is so good. Bonnie French
